After several attempts, my Ubuntu 10.04 is able to connect to the Internet (using wireless adapter)…
It seems like a small thing but it isn’t.
I started some months ago with Ubuntu 9.10. At that moment, my wireless card was not supported.
In Feb, I decided to buy a new USB card with linux support and after several tries, I didn’t make it work (I compiled several drivers from the manufacturer).
March and May, I didn’t have time to look at it (I worked with Ethernet at the dining room).
Then Ubuntu 10.04 was released. Today I tried again and now it worked.
All thanks to the following post: http://tutorialesapocrifos.blogspot.com/2010/04/wireless-instalar-drivers-rt2870-y.html (in spanish).
Now, it is time to enjoy the OS and continue doing what I like: programming.
Yes, I have to admit that I crashed my installation when trying to update from 9.10 to 10.04 beta but I’m not giving up. In 3 days I’ll reinstall everything and this little problem will be past.
Interesting articles with a very nice presentation.

About 4 weeks ago, I decided to give Linux another try.
Last year, in November, I was installing Ubuntu 9.10 and I was greatly surprised by it.
But at that time, I couldn’t keep Ubuntu mainly due to my inability to set up the wireless usb card I had. Also, I didn’t have too much time, so I decided to go back to Windows.
4 weeks ago, I decided to go Linux and the experience has been really pleasant so far.
From a pure User perspective, I think that Linux is a very easy system to use. Installing new software is now a completely easy task. The quality of the software is very high. I don’t miss anything I had in Windows.
From a programmers perspective, I really love Linux. The system is very stable, it runs very fast and you can find almost any tool here (except windows or macosx specific).
It is not perfect but it is good enough the get me there. I’ll try to post which software I use and how to configure the system.
I found this article that is worth reading: http://www.johndiesattheend.com/updates/?p=1071
Keeping some words apart, I agree with some of its content:
Accomplishing worthwhile things isn’t just a little harder than people think; it’s ten or twenty times harder.
